Tanzania is starting to get on board with remote work as it becomes increasingly popular throughout the world. This is especially true as the number of people willing to work remotely continues to rise.
The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed several businesses and freelancers to change their operational models to remote working to reduce risk.
The good thing is that freelancers can work anywhere remotely.
Recently, we have seen a lot of companies leaning towards hiring people part-time and freelance because they are having problems hiring full-time due to the costs that come with it.
With the gig economy’s rapid growth, inevitably, more of us will soon be working this way. In reality, many of us may be forced to decide soon.
So far, gig-economy platforms’ share of total employment is modest—ranging between 1% and 3% of total employment, according to the OECD, which also says the share is growing fast.
Most freelancers don’t realize that there are other ways to find freelance jobs besides using marketplaces. That’s what keeps them from growing and getting high-paying freelance jobs outside of freelancing platforms.
These platforms provide a large number of low-wage jobs. Freelance writers are an excellent example; many writers are paid $5 on Fiverr to write a 1000-word article, while others get paid $50 to $250 per post for a similar task elsewhere.
Having said that, you shouldn’t quit working on freelancing platforms right away. These platforms are a great starting point for freelancers to learn the basics.
However, getting paid well depends on your skill level, experience, and quality of work. It’s also important to know your market and see which types of jobs and skills get paid the most so that you can maybe start learning a new skill or plan for a future freelancing career.
Outside of freelance networks, clients pay quite generously.
However, many freelancers wonder how they might obtain them. So, I’ve got a solution for you.
As a freelancer in Tanzania, I’ll teach you five ways to acquire high-paying freelance jobs.

1. Build Relationships with Clients
As a freelancer, your primary objective should be to develop long-term relationships with your clients. Clients will offer you more work if you have better relationships with them.
You might begin by communicating with them on a more frequent basis. To establish a relationship, greet them before each email, ask about their weekend, and offer a brief personal story about yourself.
Building a connection is key in freelancing, especially with clients, as they will always get back to work with you and refer you to other high-paying freelance jobs through their connections or friends.
This scenario has happened a lot to me, as most of my new clients have been referred to me by my other clients.
Having good communication with clients is not only a good strategy in the freelancing business, but it also makes working with clients and the work process run much more easily.
2. Collaborate with other Tanzanian freelancers.
Collaboration is preferable to rivalry. Working as a freelancer indeed puts you in a competitive market, but it doesn’t imply that you have to compete with every other freelancer in your industry.
Collaboration and partnership with others in your area frequently result in more opportunities and money.
Join an online community group and meet other freelancers in your field and engage together. A good start is the Get Paid Africa community on Telegram.
Where you will meet with online creators, freelancers, traders, and a lot more. You name it.
3. Take advantage of Twitter, Facebook Groups, and LinkedIn.
Social media platforms are another great way to find freelancing clients that can lead to high-paying freelance jobs that you cannot get on freelancing marketplaces.
Nowadays, getting Twitter followers isn’t difficult, and Twitter is a great place to start learning how to acquire social media clients. Be an authority in your field and provide value through your tweets, and clients will want to work with you.
As you connect with these people, you can leverage the platform to market yourself and your services.
Like on Facebook, you can also join some groups throughout your target industry. Participate in the groups and begin to add value to what you offer.
On LinkedIn, connecting with other professionals is simple. As a freelancer, you’ll have access to a broad network of contacts that can help you get your business up and running. You may also utilize LinkedIn jobs to get freelancing clients without putting in a lot of work.
4. Concentrate on High-Profit Specializations
Do you work in a field where you don’t get a lot of money? Consider changing skillsets to ones that will pay you more money. Look into the most in-demand skills and see if any of those areas interest you.
One of my friends was doing translation work and realized that the jobs he was getting were low-paying. He decided to transition to virtual assistance work, where he may earn up to $1,000 per month performing Canva designs and social media help.
5. Utilise Cold Emails strategy.
Find and connect with clients outside the freelance marketplaces by sending them cold emails. Pick clients you want to work with, then look up their contact email and send them a casual email explaining how you can help them with your freelance service.
Writing an email to a client to pitch for a job is not an easy task. Because your email needs to be perfect to win over the client.
However, to write a great email, you don’t need to be an expert in the English language. But, to look more professional to your clients, you just need to learn to follow specific email standards when writing the pitch.
I use this strategy a lot to get writing clients, and it always works for me. You can use it to get high-paying freelance jobs in Tanzania as well.
You may find freelance jobs in a variety of ways. It’s also worth stating that it’s just challenging at first. It will be a lot easier to locate a job online if you have a better understanding of how things work first.
So don’t be discouraged; continue to make progress by learning new skills.
Find new skills to compliment your service quality and learn them. Learn graphic design if you’re a website designer, for example. Learn UX design if you’re a programmer.
These complementary skills will go a long way toward increasing the competitiveness of your services. And offers you an edge over competitors when it comes to gaining new clients.
